What is Idealist Day?

What is Idealist Day?

Idealist Day is a day of action and possibility and takes place monthly. Individuals take action to make their communities a better place, non-profit organizations create opportunities to connect with interested people, and volunteers, companies, governments, and institutions organize activities to connect with others and take action.

When is Idealist Day?

Idealist Day takes place monthly on the day when the month and the day are represented by the same number: 1/1, 2/2, 3/3, 4/4, 5/5, 6/6, 7/7, 8/8, 9/9, 10/10/, 11/11, and 12/12.

There is still time to make a resolution related to the change you want to make in your community. It can be big or small, just you or with others, whatever you can imagine.

Share it on social media and on the Idealist facebook page with the hashtag #IdealistResolution.

What about Idealist Day, 2/2?

What is happening on Idealist Day, 2/2?

People in more than 200 communities around the world have stepped up to help all of us meet locally, in person, on Saturday, 2/2, at 2:00pm local time.

The goal of these local meetings is to connect in person, start working together, and plan ahead for the next several Idealist Days. (For 3/3 we’ll invite every organization we know to join us in this movement; 4/4 will be all about schools, teachers, and kids; and on 5/5 we’ll bring it all together with a full day of events and activities, culminating at 5:00pm with a group photo at a local landmark to celebrate how far we’ve come, and to invite more people to join us the following month.)

To start, we need at least one person per location to simply say, “I will be there!” and then others can jump in and join you. That’s why we built these simple Idealist Day maps.

To get the ball rolling wherever you are, please:

1. Click on this map.

2. Zoom down to your location on 2/2 (the map will tell you to keep zooming until you are close enough), and then click on the map.

3. A new dot will appear and a Facebook comment box will open up. Use the box to say that you will be there. That way others can join you, and we can be in touch.

If you already see a dot where you are, please don’t add another one. Instead, click on that dot and respond to the person who placed it.

Please don’t worry about being the only person where you are. There are probably others nearby, and we have time to reach out to more.

Idealist Groups are ongoing groups of like-hearted people who believe in this initiative and work together to organize events on Idealist Day.

Find an Idealist Group near you… and if there isn’t one yet, submit a form to create one in your area.

The Idealist logo is your logo. It is yours to use. Use it to symbolize freedom and dignity, respect and generosity, joy and solidarity. And all the good work you are doing to make your community and the world a better place.
